The World Trees of the Ancients
For those of you who have ever found yourself so deep in a forest that you actually had to stop and consider how you would find your way back to civilization, it is easy to understand why ancient men treated trees with a reverence which led to legends, lore and ritual. In Iran, there is a cosmogony that declares the first human pair as having grown from a single tree, their fingers folded over each other’s ears, till the time came when they were ripe for individuation, when they became two sentient beings, infused by Ahura Mazda (meaning Light Wisdom) with distinct human souls.
