National Homemade Cookies Day - October 1

Jack O’Lanterns were originally carved turnips or potatoes left on windowsills and doorsteps so the faeries would take them instead of the children. Now that is kind of a creepy thing to think about. Faeries aren’t always the cute little Tinkerbell types. There are legends of faeries stealing children and replacing them with “changelings.” Celebrate National Homemade Cookies Day by baking gingerbread people and decorating them to look like family members. The same idea could be done with simple round sugar cookies with a bit of orange food coloring in the dough

to make them look like pumpkins. Decorate them for each other. Don’t do yourself.
