Continuing Feng Shui Education: Kitchens

Red Phoenix is Key to Happy Kitchens

No one is attracted to a dark space to stir up tasty treats. Most of us learned at a very early age not to eat anything that you’re not sure what it is. When you can’t see the food in your own kitchen, you are not giving y yourself the support you need to nourish yourself.

Natural light is the best choice, but the Sun sets at the end of the day. If you have fluorescent lighting in your kitchen and can’t afford to change it out, get some kitchen lamps. Bathroom or “boudoir” lamps are generally small enough to tuck under cabinets, but their bulbs are small.

There are new stick up lights that add new options, even in rented spaces. Some are battery operated; some can be hard-wired. Use inside and underneath cabinets.

Sometimes you can position a mirror to be away from water and the heat of the stove, but still double the light to brighten the space. Painting the upper cabinets white or installing a white and shiny backsplash will also add more light. Keep dark colors close to the floor.
